WHY GO
Leave the High Peak Trail for a tree-fringed hilltop with a Neolithic chambered tomb, later barrows and wide White Peak views.
Minninglow’s ring of trees makes a distinctive landmark above the White Peak fields. Within it are the exposed stone chambers of a Neolithic tomb and nearby Bronze Age burial mounds, showing how this hill remained important across successive periods. The walk from the High Peak Trail adds another layer of history, passing former railway earthworks and quarry remains before the signed concessionary path climbs through pasture. On the summit, look closely at the surviving limestone slabs and capstones, then take in the surrounding plateau. The monument is fragile: explore respectfully without climbing on the stones.

Approach
Cross the narrow lane from the car park and follow the High Peak Trail east over the embankment and through the cutting. Just beyond the disused quarry and crane, take the signed concessionary footpath on the left, through gates and uphill to the tree-ringed summit. For the published three-mile circuit, descend on the opposite signed path and return via the lanes described in the linked guide. Allow 1–2 hours for the complete circuit; a separate one-way approach time is unverified.
Walking time from arrival (one way)
Not yet checked. Please confirm before your visit.
Terrain & steps
Firm former-railway trail followed by a sloping pasture path, loose limestone and uneven ground among the tombs. Gates and narrow-lane sections occur on the described circuit; the walking source reports no stiles.
Accessibility
The High Peak Trail section is firmer than the final hill approach, which is sloping and uneven. A continuous step-free or wheelchair-suitable route to the monument has not been verified; the trail’s accessibility does not establish summit access.
Access & restrictions
Use the signed concessionary paths for the hill and obey current signs and gates. The National Park lists 25 pay-and-display parking spaces, card payments and RingGo location 51717; check on-site tariffs. Overnight parking and camping in National Park car parks are prohibited. Protect the scheduled monument and keep clear of livestock.
Facilities
Car parking is available at the trail. Nearby route information reports no public toilets or eateries on the walk; bring what you need rather than relying on facilities at the hill.
Seasonal considerations
Pasture and limestone become slippery in wet or icy conditions, and the exposed hill requires weather-appropriate clothing. Recheck concessionary-path signs and livestock conditions on arrival.

Typical total visit: 60–120 minutes, including exploring.
Step-free approach: not checked.
The total 60–120 minutes describes Let’s Go Peak District’s complete three-mile circuit from the named car park, including rest stops and the return; RGS independently presents its related three-mile trail as two hours. It is not a one-way approach or time solely at the tomb. A fully verified one-way time and step-free audit are absent, so those fields remain null/unknown. The National Park’s separate 200 m Minninglow sandpit path is not the hill approach.
