Broken gritstone cliffs and the natural pinnacle called The Tower above remote Alport Dale, approached on foot from Fairholmes.
Alport Castles is a dramatic landslip landscape where harder gritstone has broken away above weaker rocks. The Tower rises among fallen blocks below the escarpment, with open views over Alport Dale. The Royal Geographical Society’s walk reaches the rim from the Upper Derwent Valley before continuing through the dale.
