WHY GO

Gritstone cliffs above Crowden Great Brook, reached on a steep Pennine Way approach with exposed paths.

Laddow Rocks rises above the Crowden valley on the Pennine Way. The edge brings views along the brook and across the surrounding moorland. Reaching the rocks is a hill walk, and the narrow path beside the cliffs requires particular care.

Plan a safe visit
Editorial review: 6 November 2026. Conditions may change.
Approach
Join the Pennine Way from Crowden and climb north-west over the stony path, crossing Oakenclough Brook before the steeper ascent to the edge. The published Crowden guide gives 3.7 km to Laddow; return planning is essential.
Walking time from arrival (one way)
Not yet checked. Please confirm before your visit.
Terrain & steps
Stony, steep and uneven paths, stream crossings and an exposed cliff-edge section.
Accessibility
The steep and narrow approach is demanding. No continuous step-free access audit is available in the checked sources.
Access & restrictions
A walking guide updated in July 2026 still reports two landslips first noted in October 2024. Repair status is unknown; do not continue if the route looks unsafe.
Seasonal considerations
Wind increases exposure on the edge. Check weather and daylight before starting; turn back if conditions or the damaged path exceed your ability.
